1982: Developing PACE

In 1982, Chapter Development was replaced by Personal and Chapter Enrichment (PACE) to provide chapter programming, public relations, problem-solving skills and education beyond the classroom for both collegians and alumnae. Then, in 1983, a questionnaire posed at the Area Leadership Conference resulted in a pilot program for a Gamma Phi Beta career network. Of those responding, 81 percent said that an international career network was the program they would most like to see developed. PACE Chairwoman Camille Cestone (Bowling Green) tested the program, a network designed to provide collegians and alumnae with job information, career contacts and mentoring. Programs related to job-seeking were expanded upon through articles in The Crescent. At the 61st Convention held in Chicago from July 31 to August 4, 1984, the program was approved and SisterLink was born. In the years to come, it evolved to become SisterLink Global Resource Network, and as proof that Gamma Phi Beta was years ahead of the pack, Gamma Phis now use LinkedIn, the world’s largest professional network.
