The Alumnae Initiate Program

Gamma Phi Beta welcomes into membership qualified women who may have never attended college, attended a college or university without a fraternity/sorority community or never became an initiated member of a National Panhellenic Conference sorority while in college. Our program provides members the opportunity to invite outstanding women to share in the pride of becoming a Gamma Phi Beta.

Frequently Asked Questions

An alumna initiate may be any woman who meets the high standards of Gamma Phi Beta membership. For example, she may be a colleague, friend, neighbor or relative of a Gamma Phi Beta. She may be an outstanding community leader, professional woman or stay-at-home mom. Alumnae of a local sorority that have been accepted as a Gamma Phi Beta new chapter are also eligible to become alumnae initiates. An alumna initiate candidate may not be or ever have been a member of another National Panhellenic Conference (NPC) organization or currently an employee of Gamma Phi Beta, including affiliated house corporation boards.

Any alumna member in good standing may sponsor a candidate for alumna Initiation. Members in good standing have paid alumnae dues for the current fiscal year or Life Loyal.

  • If you do not know Gamma Phi Beta members who are eligible to serve as your sponsor, please feel free to submit an Alumna Initiate Interest Form or complete an Alumna Initiate Application anyway. We have an Alumna Initiate volunteer team ready to serve as sponsors for those that do not have one. If this is the case, please let International Headquarters (IH) know on the Interest form or on the application.

  • If you are geographically close to an alumnae chapter, we encourage you to reach out and try to make some local connections in your area! To find the alumnae chapter nearest you, please click here.

There are a few ways candidates can get initiated:

  • In-person at a collegiate chapter: This is a traditional initiation service. You choose a collegiate chapter that is closest to you and get initiated at their initiation service. The date of the service depends on the collegiate chapter.
  • Virtual initiation service: Primarily this service is for those that are not geographically close to a collegiate chapter. The date of the fall or spring initiation service will be posted on this page.

  • Convention service: This initiation service will occur at our biannual Convention. If you would like to be Initiated at Convention, please email alumnae@gammaphibeta.org. For more information about Convention, please click here.

Applications need to be completed in their entirety and submitted to IH no later than six weeks prior to the initiation date. That being said, the sooner we receive the application the better. The initiation date varies depending on the type of initiation service you wish to participate in.

  • For individuals: If you choose to participate in this program, you are eligible for membership into an alumnae chapter. You also may be involved with collegiate chapters serving in roles or serve in international volunteer roles!

  • For alumnae members: The alumna initiate program allows alumnae members to share their Gamma Phi Beta experience and sisterhood with those they cherish most.

  • For alumnae chapters: The alumna initiate program allows alumnae chapters to recruit candidates they believe would make involved and active members of the Sorority.

  • Candidates are required to pay the $175 membership fee, and either $40 in alumnae dues or $350 for a Life Loyal membership. They are also required to purchase a badge. Badge ordering instructions will be distributed upon approval of Initiation.

Megan Weinstein (Indiana) says, “As an alumnae initiate of Gamma Phi Beta, I can confidently say that joining this sorority was one of the best decisions I have ever made. Despite not being a traditional college initiate, I found a open-hearted community of like-minded women who are passionate, inspiring, and supportive. The initiation process at the Beta Phi chapter at Indiana University was a meaningful and positive experience filled with tradition and camaraderie. Even though I am in my mid-thirties, the college initiates welcomed me as their sister, and I immediately felt a sense of belonging. Since becoming a member, I now have the opportunity to volunteer in my region, network with successful women in various fields, and further develop leadership skills that will continue to help me in my professional life. I look forward to building lifelong friendships with women who will uplift me in every aspect of my life.”
