Convention 1888: Boston, Massachusetts

November 8-10, 1888, the sixth Convention was held in Boston, Massachusetts, at the Delta Chapter (Boston) hall. At this Convention, the carnation was chosen as the Sorority’s official flower. The color of the carnation, however, was not specified for decades to come. Red, pink and white carnations were used to mark occasions and as decorations for Gamma Phi Beta gatherings. By all accounts, however, pink was always the preferred color and in 1950, they determined that only pink carnations should be used during ritual services.

Also at this Convention, a committee was appointed to develop a plan for creating a Gamma Phi Beta publication. The plan was presented at Convention 1889 and stimulated a lively discussion, but no commitment emerged.
