Volunteers

Gamma Phi Beta volunteers are valuable supporters who devote their time, energy, experience and expertise to the Sorority. They impact policies and programs that affect our sisterhood and play an active role in advancing the future of our Sorority. The benefits our Sorority and collegians receive from our strong core of alumnae volunteers are immeasurable and help our Sorority shine!

Benefits of Volunteering

Personal and Professional Development
Volunteer positions provide our members with excellent opportunities for professional development and personal growth. Our volunteers work in a variety of areas for the Sorority and can explore new areas of individual interest while expanding their team-working, communication and relationship-building skills. Any résumé is enhanced through volunteerism as your sharpen your business savvy, career knowledge, time-management and aptitude.

Sisterhood and Networking
Gamma Phi Beta volunteers develop new friendships with sisters across the country. Volunteer opportunities vary from working with collegians to working with other alumnae. Volunteers connect with each other at Convention, conferences and small group meetings. Our Sorority volunteers enjoy working with other members and inspiring the highest type of womanhood as they develop lasting relationships.

Whatever your schedule allows, Gamma Phi Beta has a volunteer position for you! You can start small by volunteering at a one-time event such as recruitment or Initiation; some members even "e-volunteer," serving volunteer hours electronically.

Volunteer Roles and Responsibilities

As a member-driven organization, Gamma Phi Beta is comprised of volunteers who manage, lead and direct the programs, operations and vision of the Sorority. Below is information on our various volunteer roles and responsibilities.

Collegiate Chapter Advisors
Chapter advisors enjoy a rewarding opportunity to mentor, guide and support our collegiate members. A board of local alumnae motivates and advises each collegiate chapter in all areas of chapter operations, leading them toward future and continued success.

A chapter advisor attends chapter and executive council meetings and chairs the advisory board. Other potential advisors include recruitment, new member, financial, education, public relations, ritual and scholarship.

Affiliated House Corporation (AHC)
Alumnae with talents in facility management, personnel management, rental property or finance are encouraged to serve on their local AHC. AHC volunteers help manage the chapter facility and day-to-day operations of the facility, including meal service, employee relations, maintenance and improvements. It is through their volunteer efforts that Gamma Phi Beta is able to provide chapter housing for its members.

Alumnae Chapter Leadership
Involvement as an alumnae chapter member provides a wonderful opportunity to remain actively involved with Gamma Phi Beta after college! Gamma Phi Betas of all ages are encouraged to join an alumnae chapter and become involved as members, officers and leaders.

Regional Teams
Gamma Phi Beta's eight geographic regions are comprised of regional directors and a team of regional coordinators. Together they provide support, guidance and oversight for our collegiate and alumnae chapters, advisory boards and HCBs, and focus on the overall health and success of a chapter in that region.

Regional directors are responsible for coordinating the support activities and assignments of regional coordinators and for ensuring the successful operations of alumnae and collegiate chapters. Regional coordinators are a chapters' first point of contact at the international level. Specifically, each regional coordinator has the dual function of serving as a small group of chapters within the region as well as serving as a resource for the entire team in a specialized area of the Sorority (i.e., financial, programming, etc).

Sorority Departments
Under the supervision of members of International Council, each sorority department provides ongoing development and support for finance, recruitment, collegiate, alumnae, education and Panhellenic areas. Each department offers a variety of volunteer opportunities at the sorority director and sorority coordinator levels.

Special Projects
Members with specific skill-sets and experience are a great resource for short-term projects and task forces as needed. Task forces generally conduct research while providing their expertise to make a recommendation to the Sorority, usually at each Convention.

International Council
Serving on International Council (IC) is one of the most revered and honored volunteer roles within our Sorority. The outstanding women of IC serve as the board of directors for Gamma Phi Beta and are charged with managing the affairs and property of the Sorority. Voted into office by our membership at Convention, the seven voting members of International Council serve two-year terms.
