Audrey Weldon Shafer

(Missouri-Columbia, 1938)

Wisdom from her Convention report, 1972:

…To be Grand President of Gamma Phi Beta is one the most rewarding and at time the most frustrating jobs imaginable! The correspondence is unbelievable, but very, very necessary. Copies of letters from all international officers are received by the Grand President and are a very vital factor if she is to be kept adequately informed as to the functioning of all facets of the Sorority. Correspondence with officers – and especially with the members of Grand Council – keeps the operation of the Sorority on an even keel. Exchanging ideas and suggestions…is imperative…To have served Gamma Phi Beta as Grand President has been one of the most challenging, rewarding and demanding but very worthwhile experiences in my entire life. I could never have fulfilled the duties of the office without the very able assistance of a dedicated Grand Council and hard-working international officers. My undying love and gratitude is extended to them…I believe wholeheartedly in the Sorority system and I believe in Gamma Phi Beta. I am proud of the role as leaders which we occupy in the fraternity world and will do everything possible to see that our Sorority continues to maintain a position of respect and trust.

Audrey Weldon Shafer served as Grand President from 1970-74.
