REAL Leadership Experience FAQs

The RLE application is a place for you to authentically share your experiences. You can prepare for your application by taking time to reflect on any past leadership experiences and thinking about what you hope to achieve in the future with your leadership skills.  

The RLE application includes five essay questions that are required for a complete application. These essay questions are provided below to assist you in preparing to submit your application. Answers should not be longer than 400 words.  

1. Share with us a time when you felt your best as a leader. What happened before, during and after this leadership experience?  

2. Describe someone you admire or look up to and how they have influenced you as a leader.  

3. Consider one issue or cause that you feel passionate about. Describe how you would like the world to be different related to this cause or issue in the future.  

4. Think of a time when things didn’t go as you expected. What did you learn from this situation, and how are you different as a leader or individual?  

5. Describe a time when you benefitted from hearing a perspective quite different from your own. What was the perspective and how did it impact you? 

Gamma Phi Beta builds confident women of character who celebrate sisterhood and make a difference in the world around them. The RLE is a program designed to build skills and confidence in emerging Gamma Phi Beta leaders. Prior leadership experiences are not a requirement to be considered for RLE. Any member who has a commitment to Gamma Phi Beta and aspires to grow as a leader and as an individual is encouraged to apply.  

There is no cost to attend RLE. Participants’ chapters will need to pay for their own transportation, airfare or gas to RLE's host location. Selected participants are encouraged to speak with their chapter's executive council and chapter advisor to cover travel costs. All accommodations and meals will be covered during the four days of the program.    

Selected candidates will participate in a four-day retreat-style leadership conference within a group of 35-40 other emerging Gamma Phi Beta leaders. Participants will experience innovative leadership development through dynamic programming, small group discussions, alumnae mentorship and personal reflection.  

The RLE is hosted July 17-20, 2025. Gamma Phi Beta is excited to host this multi-day event in person at one of our beautiful chapter facilities, Psi Chapter facility in Norman, Oklahoma. 

Candidates for this exciting program are Gamma Phi Betas in their first- or second-year of membership who have not held an executive council officer role. (Candidates may have held non-executive council leadership roles in their chapter.) We encourage members to apply who have a commitment to Gamma Phi Beta and aspire to grow as a leader and as an individual.
