Canadian Specific 

The Canadian Disability Foundation (CDF) is the national disability organization for Canada. The CDF works to create innovative social solutions through their support of more than six million Canadians.

The Council of Canadians with Disabilities (CCD) is an advocacy organization that focuses on inclusiveness and accessibility for their citizens with disabilities. This organization works to be a source of support through equal opportunity to technology, transportation and law advocacy.

The Learning Disabilities Association of Ontario (LDAO) focuses on improving the lives of all ages with learning disabilities. The LDAO offers support by providing services, information and products to help with learning disabilities and those helping like parents and teachers.

General Disability 

The book “Disability and the University” is an account of students with disabilities who pursue higher education. In this compelling book, students share their experiences to provide insight and tools for those in similar situations.

Disability Rights, Education, Activism and Mentoring (DREAM) is charged with the mission of advancing the interests of students with disabilities and their allies at institutions of higher education across the United States. This national organization advocates for student rights, increased accessibility, social and policy change and aims to provide support and mentorship to local campus disability groups and individual students.

National Center on Health, Physical Activity and Disability (NCHPAD) is a public health practice and resource center on health promotion for people with disability. It seeks to help people with disability and other chronic health conditions achieve health benefits through increased participation in all types of physical and social activities, including fitness and aquatic activities, recreational and sports programs, adaptive equipment usage and more.

Hearing Impairment 

How Technology has Changed What It’s Like to be Deaf is a Ted Talk by Rebecca Knill, a writer who has cochlear implants that enable her to hear. In this funny, insightful talk, she explores the evolution of assistive listening technology, the outdated way people still respond to deafness and how we can shift our cultural understanding of ability to build a more inclusive world.

The National Association of the Deaf (NAD) is a national organization that provides resources for employment, education, housing, health care and mental health services for hearing-impaired individuals and their families. They serve deaf, deafblind, deaf-disabled and hard of hearing individuals in the United States.

The National Deaf Black Advocates (NDBA) is the official advocacy organization for thousands of Black Deaf and hard of hearing people in the United States. The NDBA’s mission is to promote leadership development, economic and educational opportunities, social equality and to safeguard the general health and welfare of Black deaf and hard of hearing people.

Intersectional Disability 

The Asian American Disability Initiative (AADI) is a youth-led nonprofit organization with the mission to uplift disabled Asian American voices. The AADI works to empower rising disabled Asian American leaders, build a community for Asian Americans with disabilities and provide resources for Asian Americans with disabilities to help combat ableism and share their stories.

The Disability Visibility Podcast hosts discussions with community leaders bringing light to many topics like disability identity, politics, activism and intersectionality.

The Hispanic/Latino Disability and Health Resources list is an extensive list of resources to support Latinx people with disabilities. This resource, curated by The Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation, spans physical, cognitive, learning and other disabilities.

Power Not Pity is a podcast that celebrates the stories and experiences of disabled people of color. Through the power of sharing experiences of the community, this podcast aims to dismantle ableism. Power Not Pity is available through iTunes, Spotify and Stitcher.

The Native American Disability Law Center is a nonprofit organization that advocates for the legal rights of Native Americans with disabilities. They provide education, legal representation, advocacy and other resources to Native Americans living with disabilities.

The National Black Disability Coalition (NBDC) is an organization dedicated to helping ensure Black disabled people are priorities in all spaces. The NBDC works to dismantle the stigma around people with disabilities while providing scholarships for Black disabled students as well as attorney consultations to disabled people and their families.

Understanding Disability in the LGBTQ+ Community is a digital resource curated by the Human Rights Campaign (HRC), an organization that advocates for legal equity for the LGBTQ+ family. In addition to providing insight into the disability experience within the LGBTQ+ community, this resource also includes a list of organizations committed to advocating for members of the LGBTQ+ community with hearing impairment, neurodivergent disabilities, physical disabilities, mobility disabilities and more.

Learning Disability  

College Learning Experience (CLE) is the industry’s leading provider of post-secondary supports for young adults with learning differences. Dedicated to providing the highest quality of services, CLE strives to propel young adults toward success as they journey through their transition into higher education.

LD OnLine seeks to help children and adults reach their full potential by providing accurate information and advice about learning disabilities and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). LD OnLine offers information and resources on the transitions from school to college and from school to the workplace as well as on the issues faced by adults with learning disabilities.

The Learning Disabilities Association of America (LDA) Podcast provides a space for community and discussion to support those with learning disabilities. This podcast also covers topics of interest to educators, parents and professionals.

Mobility Disability 

Down to the Struts is a podcast about disability, design and intersectionality, where host Qudsiya Naqui empowers listeners to uncover the building blocks for a more accessible, inclusive and equitable world for all disabled people.

I’m Not Your Inspiration, Thank You Very Much is a Ted Talk by comedian and journalist Stella Young. Stella happens to go about her day in a wheelchair — a fact that doesn't, she'd like to make clear, automatically turn her into a noble inspiration to all humanity. In this funny talk, Stella breaks down society's habit of turning disabled people into "inspiration porn."

Mobility International is an international nonprofit organization that seeks to advance disability rights and leadership globally. Their goal is to empower people with disabilities around the world to achieve their human rights through international exchange and international development.

Non-Visible Disabilities 

Active Minds is a mental health awareness and advocacy group found in more than 1,000 campuses and communities. Active Minds’ goal to make conversations about mental health needs as easy as conversations about physical health is achieved through their work on college and university campuses, the resources they provide online and their in-person and virtual events.

Invisible Not Broken is a podcast that helps to educate the world about chronic illnesses. It also aims to support those who are diagnosed with a chronic illness (or currently awaiting diagnosis) by building a community.

The Mighty is an online community, blog and digital resource hub for people with chronic illness and other health challenges. The Mighty’s work is centered on creating community and providing support for individuals with chronic illness and other health challenges.

Vision Impairment 

Be My Eyes is an interviewed-based podcast that gives those with a vision impairment the ability to share not only their experiences but the great work they are doing in their daily lives and community.

The National Federation of the Blind (NFB) is an organization that works to remove obstacles and stigmas surrounding vision impairment, with the goal of creating equal opportunities. The NFB coordinates programs, services and resources to defend the rights of blind Americans, provide information and support to blind children and adults and build a community that creates a future full of opportunities.

The Nation’s Blind Podcast works to discuss different aspects related to blindness that people face today, including news, people’s experiences and independent living. The Nation’s Blind Podcast is hosted by The National Federation of the Blind.
