Gamma Phi Beta Foundation Historical Highlights

1921 Denver alumnae established a camp for girls as a philanthropic project.
1929 Convention delegates selected camping for girls as ΓΦΒ’s international philanthropy.
1933 Camp Gamma Phi Beta purchased in Sechelt, British Columbia and administered by the Vancouver Camp Board.
1933-1969 Various ΓΦΒ camps established around the United States.
1959 ΓΦΒ Foundation created.
1966 Philanthropy Board incorporated into Foundation.
1968 Permanently endowed, named funds established.
1969 All United States ΓΦΒ camps sold, and supplemental campership grants provided to support camping in local communities.
1974 Sorority Centennial Campaign raised funds for the Foundation; the Foundation logo created.
1982 Camp ΓΦΒ in Sechelt deeded to the Foundation.
1984 Foundation Board of Trustees changed from Sorority Grand Council to elected trustees and appointed chairwoman.
1985 Foundation called first meeting of all NPC Foundation leaders, establishing the current Foundations’ Conference. Capital Endowment Campaign launched to create a Leadership Development Endowment for the purchase of a Sorority-owned International Headquarters.
1986 Convention ratified the Leadership Development Endowment and Capital Endowment Campaign.
1990 Convention reaffirmed camping for girls as ΓΦΒ’s international philanthropy. Capital Endowment Campaign concluded.
1991 Foundation Trustees established the Camping for Girls Philanthropy Endowment to fund camping efforts. Created 1874 Society for unrestricted annual gifts of $1,874 or more, the Tau Epsilon Pi Society for planned giving, and the Senior Carnation Appeal for pledges from graduating seniors.
1992 Dedicated Sorority-owned International Headquarters.
1993 Foundation completed capital campaign and purchased the entire Sorority endowment. Created Collegiate Leadership Fund of the Leadership Development Endowment.
1997 Foundation hired first full-time Executive Director.
1998 Founders Society created to attract annual unrestricted gifts from $250 to $1,873.
1999 Foundation marked 125th Anniversary of Gamma Phi Beta Sorority with new Sisterhood Plaza Brick Campaign. Created Sorority Museum Endowment.
2000 Camp Gamma Phi Beta at Sechelt, B.C. closed due to diminishing number of Board members and volunteers to run camp.
2002 The Sorority entered into collaboration with Camp Fire USA as a major new element of its philanthropy. Sisterhood Plaza dedicated at International Headquarters.
2004 Gamma Phi Beta Museum established at International Headquarters. Campaign begins to fund the Laurel Blair Salton Clark, M.D. Memorial Leadership Endowment. In memory of Columbia astronaut, Laurel Clark, the endowment will provide funding for the Sorority's leadership programming. Laurel Clark's badge is on display at IH in the museum.
2005 First annual Elizabeth Ahlemayer Quick/Gamma Phi Beta Scholarship is presented by the National Panhellenic Council. The endowment for this scholarship is managed by the Gamma Phi Beta Foundation. Foundation Board of Trustees expanded to sixteen voting and two ex-officio members. Of the voting members, two are representatives from International Council.
2006 Convention 2006 in Phoenix kicked-off the campaign to fund the Collegiate Advisor Development Endowment, which will provide funding for advisor training and development.
2008 Foundation launched its 50th Anniversary celebration at Convention 2008 in Cincinnati.
