Mentoring is a valuable tool in providing our members with the emotional and instrumental support they need to achieve their academic, personal and professional goals. Through Rock Solid Relationships, Gamma Phi Beta's mentor training program, we teach our members that through their guidance and encouragement, they can play an important role in positively influencing someone's life, while simultaneously building a meaningful relationship.
With a clear set of expectations for incorporating mentoring into the Big/Little Sister program, Rock Solid Relationships facilitates a strong foundation for the chapter and our members. Members interested in becoming a Big Sister to a new Gamma Phi Beta member must first complete special mentor training in addition to signing a commitment form stating they pledge to serve as a guide and positive role model for their Little Sister. In turn, our new members also receive education on what makes a great mentor - preparing them for this special relationship and what to expect.
As these relationships evolve, Big Sisters offer a sense of consistency and comfort to their Little Sisters, who are usually first-year college students. Joining a new organization and transitioning from high school to college life can be challenging, but through these long-term mentor relationships, our new members receive the support they need to be confident and succeed, while inspiring a greater commitment to Gamma Phi Beta.
