How Can I Get Involved?

How can you begin to make an impact with Building Strong Girls? There are lots of ways! Whether you have a couple of hours a day, week, month or year, there are plenty of opportunities to help build strong girls with one of our philanthropic partners.

While each Girls on the Run council has different needs, here are some of the volunteer opportunities available. All council locations, contact information and websites can be found at GirlsontheRun.org.

  • Become a coach or assistant coach and inspire a group of girls through their easy-to-follow curriculum over the course of 10-12 weeks. You do not have to run to be a coach, just an awesome role model! Ready, set, coach!
  • Lace up your sneakers and become a running buddy. Paired with a special girl, you have the awesome opportunity to run the 5K by her side while providing the encouragement she needs to cross the finish line. This is a powerful role!
  • Become a 5K race crew member. Help with water stops, the happy hair station and more at a Girls on the Run 5K.
  • Host a campus or community fundraising event with proceeds benefitting Building Strong Girls, and complete the Philanthropy Grant Application from the Foundation to enhance the amount raised and make a greater impact.

Camp Fire has lots of ways to get involved! They can even create a customized volunteer opportunity for your chapter. All council locations, contact information and websites can be found at CampFire.org

  • Support Camp Fire's I'm Peer Proof program by acting as mentors for the program. The curriculum will help you teach girls how to maintain positive friendships while resisting negative peer pressure.
  • Volunteer with camp activities. In addition to the educational resources Camp Fire provides, they also utilize outdoor activities to stimulate environmental education and cultivate an appreciation for nature.
  • Provide camperships. Support fundraising at the local level with philanthropic fundraising events, and complete the Philanthropy Grant Application from the Foundation to enhance the amount raised and make a greater impact.
  • Request a custom volunteer opportunity that best fits your time, talents and resources. Contact Hannah Hasselquist to set up a special volunteer activity or event for the chapter.

  • Become a Unit Guider. Deliver programming directly to girls on a weekly basis. Unit Guiders are one of Girl Guides of Canada's most valuable resources.
  • Connect with a Provincial Office to host an activity for a unit of Girl Guides. Some activities have included teaching girls how to use basic tools, like screwdrivers and hammers, outdoor walks and nature activities, spa nights and learning about online safety.
  • Support Cookie All Stars, Girl Guides of Canada's rewards initiative program that runs every fall and spring. Help a unit of Girl Guides with this campaign.
