By: Eta Iota Chapter President

Adelaine Holdmeyer (Rockhurst)  joined our Rockhurst University Colony this spring, and wrote this piece prior to her Initiation and the colony's Installation Banquet. The colony was officially installed on April 13, becoming our sixth chartered chapter in Missouri and chartering Eta Iota Chapter.

What an experience this has been, and an incredible one at that!

Because we have the unique opportunity to be a colony member, we get to build our chapter from the ground-up; that is what I am most excited about! My new sisters and I are building something special here at Rockhurst University.

There are so many awesome things about being a colony member. For starters, we have the opportunity to make a great name for ourselves and Gamma Phi Beta here at Rockhurst University. I say with great pride the women of the soon-to-be Eta Iota Chapter hold this privilege and responsibility with the utmost regard.

We are all so excited to be a part of Gamma Phi Beta, and we work hard to ensure we uphold the Core Values of the Sorority, Love, Labor, Learning and Loyalty, in our daily lives. We have also set high standards for one another.

Next week is Greek week, and I cannot wait to show the rest of campus how team-oriented and spirited we are! I have met and instantly bonded with so many wonderful women over the past couple of weeks that I may not met otherwise had I not joined the Rockhurst University Colony.

Being a colony also allowed us to start new sisterhood traditions that we hope last forever in our chapter. I cannot wait for the years ahead of us!

And of course, our experience as a new colony would not be this great without the current aid and continued support from our Collegiate Leadership Consultants Thao Le (California-Berkeley) and Erin McHale (Iowa State); New Chapter Coordinator Tracy Johnson (Florida State); Chapter Advisor Elizabeth Lehner (Wisconsin-Milwaukee); the plethora of oh-so-kind and amazing alumnae that volunteer their time to help us; and the women of Beta Upsilon Chapter (Kansas State) and Epsilon Delta Chapter (Creighton) that took time out of their busy schedules to visit us and share in the bonds of Gamma Phi Beta's sisterhood.

Without a doubt, having the opportunity to help colonize and charter a new Gamma Phi Beta collegiate chapter has been one of the most amazing experiences of my life. The best part is, I know the adventure has just begun!
