Specification of Light and Dark Brown as Official Colors

SPECIFICATION OF LIGHT AND DARK BROWN AS OFFICIAL COLORS
At Gamma Phi Beta's 20th Convention in Berkeley, California, delegates voted on the specification of light and dark brown as the Sorority's official colors.

The Sorority changed its color, originally blue, to light and dark brown in 1875 to honor Dr. J.J. Brown, whose study was used for the Friday afternoon meetings of Gamma Phi Beta. Often referred to as "brown and mode," 'mode' is defined as a lighter color of another color - in our case, brown. Although our colors had long been used, it was not until 1902 that they were officially voted upon.

Pink is not an "official" color other than the color of our flower, the pink carnation; however, it is a primary brand color of Gamma Phi Beta, used in our logos and branding.
